Protect yourself from scams

The FCA has confirmed that scammers are pretending to be car finance lenders to get personal information including names, addresses, dates of birth and banking information. They’re claiming that they need this information to process compensation payments.

Please note, we’re not contacting customers regarding commission complaints at this time, and there is no compensation scheme in place yet.

If someone calls you claiming to offer compensation, please hang up immediately and do not provide any personal information.

Commission Compensation — What you should do

Commission Compensation — What you should do

You may have heard about the recent Supreme Court ruling on commission.

Our regulator, (the FCA), is now considering a compensation scheme, which may cover two issues:

  • Discretionary commission arrangements – this is where the broker could adjust the customer’s interest rate which would impact how much commission the broker was paid. We would like to remind you that we have never used the Discretionary Commission Arrangement 'DCA' commission model and so none of our customers would be eligible for any compensation payments with respect to that type of scheme.

  • Unfairness – there are a number of factors that could mean there was an unfair commission relationship between the customer and lender. The FCA plan to conduct a consultation on how to define an unfair commission arrangement and provide guidelines on whether 'compensation' payments should be made to any customers treated unfairly.

They do not expect to make an announcement about their decision until October and say any compensation payments will be payable from next year.

What you should do:

What you should do:

  • If you have already sent us a complaint about unfair commission, either by yourself or through a third-party firm, you do not need to take any further action.

  • If you have never sent us a complaint about commission, but believe you may have been treated unfairly, you are advised by the FCA to lodge a complaint with us.

  • If we have previously rejected a complaint about Discretionary Commission Arrangements but you believe you may have been treated unfairly about commission in another way, you are advised by the FCA to lodge a complaint with us.

  • Both the regulator and the consumer champion Martin Lewis have said consumers should be aware that by issuing a complaint via a Complaint Management Company or a law firm, you may end up paying for a service you do not need and have to pay up to 30% in fees out of any compensation you receive. This can be avoided by you issuing a complaint directly to us unless you have already used such a firm.
